You can use an automation tool, such as Zapier, Zoho Flow, Microsoft Power Automate, etc, to sync the changes between a Google calendar and an Outlook calendar. You can use Mozilla Thunderbird instead of Outlook. You can use the Windows Registry to set a custom maximum size for GWSMO (the sync tool). You can use the Windows Registry to increase the maximum file size of the Outlook PST/OST file. They're just another source of issues and their only useful if you really really need an offline copy of all or a lot of your emails, or if you're trying to avoid work transformation/modernization.
My favorite: use Gmail and Google Calendar on the web UI and avoid mail clients.
